This wonderful, Marquise de Pompadour, Limoges box is Venice, Italy's Rialto Bridge, in beige 'stone', the oldest of the four bridges that span the Grand Canal and a top tourist attraction. In front is a gondola with what appears to be a priest and a couple - a wedding ceremony? A pair of entwined hearts is the clasp, and a detailed scene of Church St. Marks Basilica and St. Marks Square (Piazza San Marco), is painted inside. The box is 1.6" by 2.4" with a height of 1.7". "Marquise de Pompadour - Peint Main - MP - Limoges France" with the artist's initials is on the bottom. It comes with the original box.
