This wonderful, hand painted, oval Limoges box depicts Moulin Rouge can-can dancer, Jane Avril, elegantly dressed in a lavender hat with a flower and black feathers, a matching gown, and long black gloves. A popular performer in the Paris nightclubs, she was made famous by artist, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec in his paintings and posters. She was portrayed by Nicole Kidman in the 2001 movie "Moulin Rouge!" Painted on the side is a lace trimmed petticoat with black bow accents. A ribbon bow is the clasp. A necklace and a low cut neckline, trimmed in lace, with a rose accent, and a lot of cleavage is painted inside. It is 1.5" by 2.1" with a height of 1.1".
